Full Biography
What began as a personal journey of songwriting evolved into a full time career for Jeni Grouws, beginning with the 2008 release of her solo EP Scenic Route. Since then she focused on writing for and performing with Avey Grouws Band, with two top ten Billboard Blues charting albums—The Devil May Care (#10) and Tell Tale Heart (#7). Jeni’s songwriting has also gained recognition as well, winning top honors in the 2020 Unsigned Only Songwriting Competition and the 2021 International Songwriting Competition. With Avey Grouws Band, Jeni played venues and festivals across the country, including the Big Blues Bender in Las Vegas (with Keb' Mo', Shemekia Copeland, Danielle Nicole and more), and has shared a stage with legendary artists like Buddy Guy and Walter Trout.
In September 2024, in an effort to expand her songwriting and solo performing, Jeni relocated to Omaha, Nebraska when awarded a songwriting residency at The Music House through the Catalyst Foundation, lead by Jeff Davis, founder of Playing With Fire. The residency has been extended and she will be in Omaha until July 2027.
With the release of her debut album “Music House”, Jeni Grouws continues pushing her own boundaries with new sounds, new songs and new styles. And it’s been a big first year. Playing the Big Blues Bender in 2026, opening for Orianthi in Omaha for the debut of the Matchbox Theater, and headlining Buddy Guy’s Legends’ Mahindra Blues Festival weekend in Chicago show that Jeni Grouws is full steam ahead and is showing no signs of slowing.
